The Bible is an upcoming television series created by Mark Burnett and based on the Bible. It is planned to air on History in spring 2013.[1] Burnett considers the scripted 10-hour series to be the "most important" project he has undertaken. The project was conceived by Burnett and his wife Roma Downey after watching Cecil B. DeMille's version of The Ten Commandments for the first time since childhood. The series will mark Burnett's first scripted project.[1] In addition to Burnett and Downey, executive producers include Richard Bedser and History's Dirk Hoogstra and Julian P. Hobbs.[2]

Description

The series will cover everything "from Genesis to Revelation" within five two-hour parts,[3] each containing two or three biblical stories told through live action and computer-generated imagery.[4][5] Burnett has mentioned that "obvious" stories include Noah's Ark, the Exodus, and the birth, death and resurrection of Jesus.[4] The series will be based on the New International Version and the New Revised Standard Version of the Bible.[5]

Development

The Bible was conceived and will be produced by Burnett and his wife Roma Downey.[4][5] In May 2011, The New York Times reported that Burnett and his production team were selecting stories for the series, with production scheduled to begin in 2012 for a 2013 broadcast.[4] The budget for the series has not been disclosed, though Burnett admitted that The Bible is not his most expensive project. Researchers and theologians will be asked to verify accuracy.[4] Shooting is planned to take place in the Middle East and elsewhere.[5]
